Myrmecia nigrocincta (Jumping Jack)

from 160.00

Myrmecia nigrocincta queen ants and colonies.

This genus are also known as Bull Ants or Jumping Jacks because when startled or threatened they jump around as a defense mechanism.

These Myrmecia are very pretty with orange/black stripes on their bodies.

Myrmecia have incredible eyesight and they will often follow you across the room.

We don't generally recommend Myrmecia species for kids starting out with antkeeping because they have powerful stings and the colonies can take a long time to develop from eggs to workers. Patience and caution is required during their care. especially when feeding and cleaning the outworld.

Myrmecia are semi claustral meaning they need regular feeding whilst raising their first workers. During this time our queens enjoy raw honey, maple syrup, fruits and protein by way of cricket legs. Due to their size and aggression, we highly recommend the use of a test tube and outworld combination from the outset. This allows ease of feeding, cleanup and also a protected area for the queen to care for her brood.
